End Homelessness - Change.org: Hiding the Homeless: Super Bowl Edition: "With the country abuzz about this weekend's Super Bowl, Tampa Bay is busy cleaning up the streets to host out-of-towners for the big game. That is, by conducting homeless sweeps and 'aggressively' jailing unhoused people.

Shame on Tampa Bay... seems we've got another case of 'hiding the homeless' on our hands."

I know city budgets are drained because of the economic crisis but we still should be treating these homeless people better. The city of Tampa stands to make millions from this game. I would imagine that it costs more to jail someone than sending them to a homeless shelter.

Super bowl was fun. I didn't expect Arizona to give a tough time to Pittsburgh close to the end. Anyway I was happy to see Pittsburgh Steelers win :)

I'll bet they jailed the homeless to keep them securely off the streets. They would have been able to leave the shelters, but it's not so easy to leave jail (even in Tampa Bay). Plus that clears the streets for unwashed, drunken football fans to spend their money :)

At least they did a good job keeping the drunken revelers off the international broadcasts. That's been a problem in the past.
