Excellent points Vicki, we as a country can leverage technology better in order to make our kids more effective and efficient in school. And our teachers need to be equipped and funded properly! They are trying to fill the massive gaps in education budgets and fighting against horrible socio-economic conditions in places like Chicago, NYC and countless other urban areas across the country. We should celebrate and reward them like we do for useless hollywood celebs.

But when I need to find something Google still has the advantage. And Im no Google cheerleader either, I rant about them all the time as well. But definitely dont want you guys to stop trying out new stuff. The recent strides have been great but there is still much work to be done.

I had my browser set to Bing with a new PC and after about a day of doing searches from there I noticed several differences in the ability to retrieve relevant data and the quality of data returned.

Adready is Indeed Ready for Primetime!

I finally got a chance to try out the new advertising service from Adready and it was delightful.

For a small business owner, the process is very easy to follow and get you up and running within an hour without the need for a banner ad designer and an Adwords consultant.

I got my own ads created and running within an hour, but normally this process could take days and weeks easily.

Their system also analyzed my site and came up with a decent set of keywords that I was able to hand edit.

I am still in the process of testing, but so far the experience has been great. Cant wait to see how my ads perform and how well their systems manage my budget for the test run.

But should Google, Facebook and other similar sites have to police every letter of content that their users publish there? Italian and Brazilian courts need to wakeup and smell the 21st century.

I love vintage ads as much as modern ones and frequently check out the AdFreak blog on AdWeek: http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/ just for kicks.

While doing some research just now I got a good chuckle from one of Larry's very first TV commercials from 1980. The office decor and the production quality of the video make it seem like this was made more than 30 years ago, lol

But for some of us old-timers memories of the 80's are still vivid and my wardrobe still has holdovers from then. Well at least Larry has kept up with the times, now he is on facebook, youtube, twitter and blawgging here and here.

I hope it works, but I have been saying for years that its way too outdated a concept to for for NYT and most other media outlets. In specific cases it has applications, like industry specific data, research only useful to small groups, etc...

Also, all of the buzz around the topic should have swayed them in the other direction so I am really interested to see how this pans out. There are soo many alternative news sources out there these days that nothing stays exclusive for more than a few hours.

Google's (GOOG) old motto, "Dont Be Evil," must have just been a joke because nothing is more evil than supporting the genocide and ethnic cleansing the Chinese government is blatantly doing to the people of Tibet. And the human rights violations dont end there, the Chinese government is notorious for killing dissidents and activists.

I guess the billions of dollars of prospective income Google hoped to make off the Chinese people outweighed the value of human life.

Discussing the New York State Bar Exam

Recently we sat down with James Pantelopoulos to discuss online marketing but a very interesting side discussion about the the New York State Bar exam arose. James, who is also an attorney, is consulting the NYC construction accident attorneys of Edelman & Edelman with their online marketing efforts. And naturally we went off on a tangent when we found out he was also a lawyer, here are some of his thoughts on the bar exam;

"The New York State bar is one of the hardest tests around, not only do you have to know multi-state laws, you have to know New York State specific laws."

QUESTION: What advice would you give law students about passing the exam?
"Passing the bar is about the thinking process of passing a test more than knowledge of the law. You have to know the issue, the rule, the application (how you apply the rule to the issue) and then you conclude."

The reports coming from Haiti are horrible and hard to watch. The people there were really suffering even before this earthquake happened with poverty and poor economic conditions.

As we drink egg nog in front of warm fireplaces its important to remember the billions who live below the poverty line. And its children who suffer the most from poverty; lack of clean drinking water, food, shelter, education.....

As a technologist I recite this mantra to all my clients and friends, "Back Ups, Back Ups, Back Ups!" Make sure to have some "on-site" (in your home or office) and make sure to have some "off-site." Do it regularly and disaster recovery becomes much less frustrating. And there are many many reasons you may be disaster recovery mode so take it from me before you learn the hard way.
